Life Skills Experience
The goal of Three Points Academy's therapeutic boarding school is to prepare students for the challenges ahead as they return home.
This includes an emphasis on:
- Becoming self-supervised by following a daily schedule with minimal staff intervention.
- Learning to successfully deal with adversity that may come up in the future.
- Learning to set and achieve short- and long-term goals.
- Learning how to successfully live independently.
In support of each student’s Individual Transition Plan, an individual's time in Three Points Academy will include practice in the following areas:
- Cooking
- Hands–on preparation of meals and snacks. This includes a student obtaining a personal food handlers permit and practice in:
- Meal planning
- Nutrition requirements
- Grocery shopping
- Reading and understanding a recipe
- Recipe measurements
- Food preparation and clean-up
- Community service
- Volunteering in the community
- Managing cultural differences
- Learning to give back and look beyond self
- Time management

- Earning of a daily allowance that can be used to budget a student's weekly needs and wants

- Saving for long-term goals: earnings from vocational training are placed in a savings account and given to the student in budgeted increments and at time of graduation
