Life Skills Experience

The goal of Three Points Academy's therapeutic boarding school is to prepare students for the challenges ahead as they return home.

This includes an emphasis on:

  • Becoming self-supervised by following a daily schedule with minimal staff intervention.
  • Learning to successfully deal with adversity that may come up in the future.
  • Learning to set and achieve short- and long-term goals.
  • Learning how to successfully live independently.

In support of each student’s Individual Transition Plan, an individual's time in Three Points Academy will include practice in the following areas:

  • Cooking
  • Hands–on preparation of meals and snacks. This includes a student obtaining a personal food handlers permit and practice in:
  • Meal planning
  • Nutrition requirements
  • Grocery shopping
  • Reading and understanding a recipe
  • Recipe measurements
  • Food preparation and clean-up
  • Community service
  • Volunteering in the community
  • Managing cultural differences
  • Learning to give back and look beyond self
  • Time management
  • Planning and following a daily schedule
  • Developing personal organizational skills
  • Managing time effectively

  • Earning of a daily allowance that can be used to budget a student's weekly needs and wants

  • Saving for long-term goals: earnings from vocational training are placed in a savings account and given to the student in budgeted increments and at time of graduation
